Hermon Mountain Ski School

4-Week after school and Learn to Ski Programs

Our 4-week learn to ski lessons are for skiers and snowboarders, the three ability levels are: Beginners, Advanced-Beginners, and Intermediates. There are adult lessons offered on Friday night, all other 4-week packages are for juniors. Group sizes may vary depending on the size of the program. The lesson will begin in front of the lodge at the specified "lesson time." The students will be greeted and introduced to the Instructor at this time. Some 4-week class will last up to 1 hour and 30 minutes, others are 1 hour, please inquire at the ticket counter as to which class you are in. Parents/guardians or Program representative are asked to meet the students in front of the Lodge at the end of the lesson.

4-week lessons are more personalized than regular walk-in group lesson. In a beginner group the students will be introduced to their equipment (i.e. how to put skis on and how to take them off.) The Instructor will then teach the student about skiing or snowboarding, using many different activities designed to familiarize the student with the activity.

The goal in a Beginner ski lesson is to teach the student to walk in skis, glide down the hill using a wedge shape, turn, and stop. The goal in a Beginner snowboard lesson is to teach the student to glide down the hill, turn, and stop. These are goals only, each student progresses at different rates, there is no guarantee that any or all of these skills will be attempted or mastered. If the entire group is able to perform these skills to a level that the Instructor deems proficient, then the group will go up the lift. There is no guarantee that the class will go up the lift. A ski ticket is required for all lessons whether the class uses the lift or not. If the lift is used during a lesson, the student may ride with the Instructor, another student, ski patrol, a volunteer from the lift line, or by himself or herself.

In an advanced beginner or an intermediate class the Instructor will assess the student’s ability, if there is a particular skill that the student would like to work on they should tell the Instructor at the beginning of the lesson, so that together they can set goals for the class. These are goals only, each student progresses at different rates, there is no guarantee that any or all of these skills will be attempted or mastered. The Instructor will then teach the students about skiing or snowboarding, using many different activities designed to familiarize the students with the sport and enhance their abilities.

Skiing and snowboarding are wonderful activities that we enjoy very much. We appreciate you giving us the opportunity to share these sports with you.
